My son’s Facebook Account
I know, I know.. there is a rule in Facebook which requires all users to provide their real date of birth to encourage authenticity and provide only age-appropriate access to content, and I believe member should be 16-18 years old and above. And my son is just five years old!
It only means that I adjusted my son’s birth date to reach that age bracket and be able to create an account for him. Personally, as a mom, I don’t want him to be exposed in this kind of Social Media at his tender age. However, he had been bugging me since last week for me to make him his own Facebook account. When I asked him why and how did he knew about Facebook, he simply answered that all of his classmates have FB accounts and they wanted to add him as their friends. He even told me to put his gangster photo as his profile picture (lol!)
When he went to school the following day and came back home, he had his classmates’ full names and asked me to search for them in Facebook. Oh, did I mentioned they are only six (6) in class? Three girls and three boys including him. That’s why I found it cute to see them all in his Facebook account when I opened it yesterday. Of course, I added him to my own account and to his dad’s FB account too! By the way, I made sure that his account is on a private setting to protect his privacy. Only his accepted friends can view his full profile including photos and videos. Now, all of them can see and tag pictures of themselves especially those that were taken during school’s activities (this is basically the main purpose why I submitted to my son’s request, Facebook is a great way for photo sharing.)
I wonder what their thoughts would be regarding that FB account and to my posts regarding my children 20 years from now. As we all know, what we put on the Internet remains in the Internet for long period of time perhaps even forever.
Does your kids (aged 1-5) have their Facebook Account too?
