I had to write an article last night but I only stared at a blank white page on my monitor. There’s no creative juice flowing and so to squeeze it out of my brain, I clicked my YouTube channel. There I saw my kids’ videos goofing around with each other, dancing, and singing!
Those were the days. Most of their videos are now set in to private as per their request.
My three kids are all in grade school and they totally hate it when they see me taking videos of them. They will let me sometimes but on one condition— that it will not be uploaded on the Internet.
During the holidays, they would often borrow my cellphone and they will be singing along to the latest songs they downloaded. It is actually from them that I got to know the name of the guy who sang at the Miss Universe Pageant 2015— Charlie Puth. And they know his songs! (they made me feel really old!)
As much as I want to take a video of them, I resisted. I loved to hear them sing and they would surely stop if I did.
Their inclination to music, I guess, came from my side.
Though I seldom hear my mom sings, my aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces have really great voices. If you would ask me if I have a great voice too, I don’t know! haha! I am shy to sing in front of anybody, the shower is my only stage.
They also play musical instruments. Guitar, piano and drums.
So when my son was in third grade and expressed his desire to join Drum and Lyre, it was confirmed— he has the blood of a Fabian. He loves music. We saw a snare drum he wanted and the husband said “buy now or else he might change his interest”.
My daughters on the other hand love to sing but they are not yet that confident to let others hear them. Perhaps a little training from their aunt, my cousin, would help (Hi Tita Shineth!) For the meantime, I’ll give in to their request— just listen to them and no videos.
